ABSTRACT: Gravitational lenses were predicted by Einstein in the Theory of General Relativity in 1915, which says that the gravitational field of an object of high mass bends the local geometry of the Universe, so that the light when passing close to the object also bends. This work aims to determine the Hubble constant and the Age of the Universe through the observation of Gravitational Lenses. This project started in March 2019, aims to use the variability of these objects using data obtained from light curves to determine signal delays between components of different quasars using mathematical algorithms and techniques. The systems that were studied in this project were the quasar-lenses: HE0435-1223, HS 2009 + 1914, RX J1131-1231, SDSS J1001 + 5027 and SDSS J1206 + 4332. Using two different methods to obtain the time delay of the quasar components, one of them being the Fourier Harmonic Interpolation method and the other using Recurrent Neural Networks, it was possible to estimate the Hubble constant knowing that it is proportional to the speed dispersion of the galaxy-lens and inversely proportional to the delay of signals from its components. Thus, knowing the delay between signals A and B of two or more components of the quasars, one can calculate the Hubble constant. As the inverse of it has a dimension of time, it is possible to estimate the age of the universe. |
